Deception Pass State Park

This is a seven-mile hike on the PNT in Deception Pass State Park that begins at the end of the Ginnett Road in Skagit County and ends at Anglers Haven Drive in Island County. The current trail head descends from Ginnett Road through an old orchard into the Naked Man Valley. Then it ascends and then descends and travels along the west side of Pass Lake. At the Pass Lake parking lot the hiker carefully crosses Marine Drive and finds the next trailhead close to the intersection of Marine Drive and State Route 20. This next section of trail parallels SR20 through forest. The hiker then climbs up to SR20 close to Deception Pass Bridge and then walks across the Bridge. On the south side of the Bridge, the hiker descends the steps to the trail below the bridge, walks under the bridge, and then ascends the trail that goes up to Goose Rock. After a short side trip to the west to see the views, the hiker then descends Goose Rock on a fairly steep, switch-backing trail down to the Goose Rock Perimeter Trail. The hiker then hikes the Perimeter Trail all the way to the Park Headquarters by SR20. Right now the hiker must walk along SR20 down to the stop light and then turn left onto the Cornet Bay Road. The hiker goes all the way to Cornet Bay and goes beyond the gate at the end of the parking lot. In a short distance the hiker takes the trail that ascends on the right, the CCC Crossing Trail. This next trail system skirts the Hoypus Point area of Deception Pass State Park. At a wide intersection, the hiker goes left on the East Hoypus Point Trail (do not go uphill on the Fireside Trail). Then the hiker descends on the PNT Trail which comes out on the Anglers Haven Drive. This is the southern end of the PNT Trail in Deception Pass State Park. The hiker may wish to explore Ala Spit, an Island County Park, which is a short distance away off of the E Troxell Road.
